Thesis: Music therapy
Music therapy is the practice of using music as a medium to heal people’s illness or any kind of disease. The sound therapy is given to patients by a particular group of people. The purpose of a music therapy is to make people feel better about their condition or to heal the illness or disease completely. The people who carry out such a practice should have some private benefit out of it. This could be the financial gain as most companies charge to carry out music therapy on patients. This is said to be a monetary gain and one should provide access to people who cannot afford to get music therapy of any sort. The benefits of music therapy are that it is good for the mind, boy and soul; but to claim that it heals a particular disease can be a blatant statement. There has been no proof or medical evidence which can prove the extent to which music therapy is helpful. The effects can either be imaginary or a co-incidence of other factors. The placebo effect is also said to cause this as it refers to the state of mind where a person hopes for something and can feel the positive effects because of their faith.
People who practice music therapy believe that certain sounds can trigger some nerves in our body which are helpful in having a healing effect. They also claim that these sounds can played via particular instruments and they can make the patient feel good about him / her. It takes some time for the illness to heal as the process of music therapy can last for a long time as the effects are gradual and happen slowly. Once the effects are visible to other people, the patient can also be told about their better condition and a progress report can be given to the patient. However, before trying any such therapy on one’s body, a person should be assured if they are being exploited for money or are being given a useful healing practice.
While there is no evidence to prove the efficiency of the music therapy, one should be careful before practicing it as they might be putting others’ lives in danger as wasting precious hours on doing a waste practice can have more negative, than positive effects on people. Music has always been a safe haven for ordinary people who feel relaxed and less stressed after listening to it but using it for healing may be a bit too stretched far. It also depends on what kind of illness does it offer to heal.
