Essay: The Argument of Death Penalty

There has been a contradiction in thoughts about the concept of death penalty. It is also referred to as capital punishment. It is a severe matter which can not be treated lightly. With the increasing rate of crime in the society, the governments need to control the behavior of the people so that there could be some law and order present. It is an extreme punishment for people who commit crime. Death should not be the only solution as it would not necessarily decrease the amount of crime in the society. However, it will only reduce the number of ‘criminals’ and that do not mean that others would not continue to engage in such acts. The criminals are also human beings and therefore they are bound to make mistakes. In the medieval times, death penalty was extremely common and it also reduced the crime rate because mostly people were slaughtered or stoned to death in the mass public. However, with the emergence of human rights campaigns, people have started valuing life as human beings do not have the right to take someone’s life; even if they have taken someone else’s.

Their fate should be left to the Higher Power, to God. The judiciary system should become more efficient in punishing people according to their crime and making sure that their way of punishment also reduces the crime rate.
